The Beats N Bass Weekly Recap 9th April

Warm days and House music. A winning combination as the temperature increases and Summer creeps into action. My passion for DJ’ing was kickstarted from the Ibiza clubbing scene, so it was only natural after hearing a remix of a classic House track ‘Nomad - (I Wanna Give You) Devotion’ I was instantly transported to my youth. The track peaked at number 2 in the UK singles chart way back in 1991. The Bingo Players, a Dutch duo, had done a remix back in 2009 and more recently Jewelz & Sparkz revamped it for 2015, bringing it bang up to date by increasing the tempo, sprinkling the track with it’s ‘I Wanna Give You Devotion’ vocal and extending the undeniable saxophone sample, creating an impressive build before dropping a typical Euro driven House beat, a definite fist bumper.

Anton Romero is back again with another free download entitled ‘North West Zones’ featuring fellow ‘North Weezy’ London residantants Gappy Ranks, Donaeo & BMD. Anton and Donaeo have collaborated on a number of tracks, including the highly addictive ‘Only You’ sampling the exquisite ‘112 - Only You’ RnB smash. Being signed to Donaeo’s Zephron record label you can expect more party driven themes, bass-laced beats and catchy hooks.

Lady Lykez’s very distinguishable aggressive, forward and comical style is all over her new track ‘Don’t Care’ produced by Zdot and Krunchie. The attention grabbing ‘Nobody Can’ Lykez’s previous release, was an undeniable fire starter in the MC game, calling out many credible artists and being supported by Wiley and K Koke for her in-your-face style. Keep an eye out on this lady.

Krept & Konan have began pre-sales on there debut album ‘There Long Way Home’ and already peaked at number 2 on the iTunes chart after only an incredible 12 hours, set to be released on July 6th, the features on the album are impressive including Skepta, Ed Sheeran & Emeli Sande from the UK and Wiz Khalifa, YG & Jeremih from the US. An awesome combination of artists from both sides of the pond. The lead single ‘Certified’ featuring Rick Ross has a Trap infused beat with Krept & Konan’s signature punchlines tied with Ricky Ross the boss himself. This track will be making big moves across the airwaves.

From Rap to the king of conscious UK Hip Hop, in my opinion anyway, Akala is back with his brand new album ‘Knowledge is Power 2’ available to purchase now. Akala’s 5th studio album brings back that Boom Bap feel with a raw gritty topping. Check out the video for the lead single ‘Bang With Us’.

Machine Gun Kelly, a name I’ve heard but not taken time to listen to his music, but after hearing his latest track ‘A Little More’ featuring the incredible vocals of Victoria Monet, I’m hooked. He offers the truth, a real look into many of todays problems in modern society including poverty, corrupt governments, bullying and war.

This weeks special guest was up and coming artist Otis, promoting his latest single 24th Hour, with Ayo Beatz on production and a verse from grime vet Flirta D, the track is set to do well, with the video being played on GRM Daily. It’s a progressive tune that begins with an angelic introduction before the rolling hats and drum kick. A good use of autotune on the hook to emphasise the hard work and grind that goes into becoming an artist. Otis is one to watch as he puts his money where his mouth is and continues to develop his sound, surrounded by a good team and already working on his second single to be released soon.
